To determine whether or not an employee is capable of performing the duties and responsibilities of a specific job under its existing working conditions, Fit to Work Testing is performed. This testing is often done to assess if the employee is medically fit to return to work following an illness or injury, but can sometimes also be a precondition of employment in specific occupations (commonly EMS, airline pilot, etc.). These also determine what accommodations such as changing a work schedule or modifying work equipment, should be done. Ultimately, Fit to Work Testing evaluates whether an employee can continue to work without compromising their health or the health of others, whether an employee meets the health requirements specific to a job, and what work conditions must exist for the employee to continue to work.
